⟦1【Press Release】Industry First! NIO Battery Monitoring Platform Passes National Standard Testing and Certification

On August 21, 2026, the NIO Battery Monitoring and Operations Platform obtained the "Software Test Report for New Energy Vehicle Operational Safety Performance Dynamic Monitoring and Early Warning Platform (Enterprise Platform) (Based on GB/T 45688)" issued by the Testing Center of the Traffic Management Research Institute of the Ministry of Public Security. Since the implementation of the GB/T 45688 national standard in December 2025, NIO has become the first vehicle manufacturer to pass this testing.

The national standard "GB/T 45688-2025 Technical Requirements for Dynamic Monitoring and Early Warning of Operational Safety Performance of New Energy Vehicles" was issued by the State Administration for Market Regulation and the Standardization Administration of China. It specifies the technical requirements for dynamic monitoring and dynamic early warning of operational safety performance of new energy vehicles, aiming to identify safety hazards during vehicle operation and establish a full-lifecycle safety closed loop.

In 2026, the number of new energy vehicles in China exceeded 40 million. A large number of early vehicles have entered the mid-to-late stage of use, and the number of vehicles with expiring battery warranties is increasing year by year. Once battery failures or safety hazards occur, users will face high costs for repair or battery replacement.

Through its battery swap model, NIO has achieved decoupling of vehicle and battery lifespan issues; furthermore, empowered by the battery swap system, NIO has established a leading battery monitoring system capability, becoming the first vehicle manufacturer to pass the official GB/T 45688 testing, ensuring the safety of every battery. The test report shows that the NIO Battery Monitoring and Operations Platform complies with GB/T 45688 requirements and achieves "comprehensive coverage" of dynamic monitoring and early warning capabilities.

  • Covering all battery types within the NIO battery swap system: 5,000 batteries were randomly sampled from the NIO battery swap system, covering various manufacturers, battery types, and production batches — all swapped batteries are safe.
  • Covering different usage scenarios: The testing includes data from both vehicle-side and battery swap station-side, ensuring safety whether the battery is in the vehicle or at the station.
  • Covering various failure modes: Monitoring capabilities cover abnormalities in voltage, temperature, insulation, sampling, SOC, and more.
  • Treating illness and more importantly "preventing disease": Equipped with fault monitoring and hidden hazard monitoring functions, it identifies early signs and prevents problems before they occur.

"Every battery swap is a battery health check." NIO's battery swap system provides the battery monitoring system with multi-dimensional inspection capabilities, closed-loop verification and iteration capabilities, and hidden hazard early warning and handling capabilities.

  • Multi-dimensional inspection: From the battery's own temperature, voltage, current, and insulation status, to the multi-dimensional inspection capabilities of the battery swap station — collision imaging, torque, water cooling, and smoke detection — achieving a comprehensive health check.

  • Continuous evolution: Through closed-loop verification and iteration based on the battery swap system, the safety monitoring large model achieves continuous evolution.

  • Early warning and handling: Through the battery swap system, hidden hazard early warning and handling are carried out. Users do not need to wait for battery inspection — they can swap in a healthy battery and be on their way at full charge in just 3 minutes.

Since its launch, NIO's battery swap and battery safety technologies have received certification and recognition from multiple regulatory authorities and industry organizations:

  • In August 2026, NIO obtained the first GB/T 45688 test report for a vehicle manufacturer issued by the Testing Center of the Traffic Management Research Institute of the Ministry of Public Security.
  • In September 2023, NIO's "Key Technology for Electric Vehicle Battery Swap" won the annual award in the "Green Innovation" category from the Paulson Institute's Sustainable Development Program.
  • In December 2022, NIO's "Key Technology and Industrialization of Efficient and Safe Electric Vehicle Battery Swap" won the "First Prize of the 2022 Science and Technology Progress Award" from the China Society of Automotive Engineers.

  • In August 2022, NIO's "Full-Scenario Battery Safety Solution Based on Cloud-Edge Fusion Technology" was recognized as "2022 Global New Energy Vehicle Innovative Technology" at the World New Energy Vehicle Congress.

  • In October 2020, the National Energy Administration released the battery swap industry standards developed by NIO.

Since the first battery swap station began operation in 2018, NIO has invested over RMB 20 billion in charging and battery swap technology and infrastructure. As of August 31, 2026, NIO has built a total of 4,061 battery swap stations globally, including 1,052 highway battery swap stations; and has provided over 120 million battery swap services to users cumulatively. The battery swap model has been fully validated by users and the market at scale, and has become a mainstream charging and battery replenishment solution for new energy vehicles in China.

Looking ahead, NIO will continue to adhere to its "chargeable, swappable, upgradeable" technology roadmap, continue to build charging and battery swap infrastructure, and advance innovation in battery safety, battery swap technology, and full-lifecycle management capabilities — ensuring that every battery is managed more efficiently and safely throughout its entire lifecycle, delivering a more reassuring and convenient pure electric mobility experience to users.
