On April 25, 2026, during the Beijing Auto Show, SAIC Volkswagen officially unveiled the first model of its all-new new-energy series ID.ERA — the ID.ERA 9X, positioned as a large extended-range SUV. The new vehicle is offered in three four-wheel-drive variants — Pro, Max, and Ultra — and pricing was announced. All three variants come standard with a 192-line LiDAR and the Xingyun intelligent driver-assistance system, supporting urban and highway NOA navigation functions.

In terms of exterior design, the ID.ERA 9X features a closed-off grille at the front, paired with a full-width daytime running light strip and an illuminated logo, with split-type headlight clusters on either side. The body sides are equipped with flush door handles and a floating roof, while the rear features a single-strip full-width taillight that also incorporates an illuminated emblem. The vehicle measures 5,207 mm in length, 1,997 mm in width, and 1,810 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,070 mm, and adopts a six-seat interior layout.

In terms of interior equipment, the ID.ERA 9X offers dual 15.6-inch linked screens for the center console and front passenger side, an 8.88-inch magic instrument screen, and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip. All six seats support power adjustment, and the first and second rows come standard with heating, ventilation, and massage functions. For audio, the Pro version is equipped with 18 speakers, while the Max and Ultra versions upgrade to 27 speakers including headrest speakers; the Ultra version additionally features a 21.4-inch rear ceiling-mounted screen, a streaming media rearview mirror, and gesture control functions.

In terms of powertrain, the new vehicle is equipped with a 1.5T engine codenamed EA211 as the range extender, forming a four-wheel-drive system with front and rear dual motors. The Pro version carries a 51.1 kWh battery pack, offering 347 km of CLTC pure-electric range and 1,611 km of combined range; the Max and Ultra versions carry a 65.2 kWh battery pack, offering 406 km of pure-electric range and 1,651 km of combined range.

The ID.ERA 9X adopts an 800-volt high-voltage platform. The Pro version takes approximately 19 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%, while the Max and Ultra versions take approximately 16.5 minutes. The officially announced fuel consumption in depleted-battery mode is 6.27 L/100 km.

For the chassis, the ID.ERA 9X adopts front double-wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension. The Max and Ultra versions offer dual-chamber air suspension with DCC continuously variable damping shock absorbers, along with an intelligent preview function. The entire lineup comes standard with an active rear-wheel steering system, keeping the turning radius to approximately 4.85 meters.

Commentary: The Pro version of the ID.ERA 9X already offers fairly complete intelligent driving and basic comfort features, making it suitable for users with lower requirements for pure-electric range and suspension. The Max version adds air suspension, longer pure-electric range, and faster charging speed, while also upgrading the audio system, offering a relatively balanced value proposition. The Ultra version's exclusive features such as the rear ceiling-mounted screen and streaming media rearview mirror are aimed more at family users with additional needs for rear-seat entertainment and a sense of technology. Overall, the tiering of the three variants is fairly clear, and consumers can choose based on their own priorities regarding range, comfort features, and budget.
