On July 6, the 2027 Ford Explorer was officially launched, with five models introduced, positioned as a mid-to-large fuel-powered SUV.

In terms of exterior design, the new vehicle features a larger, more squared-off front grille paired with a star-ring-style continuous light bar. Its length, width, and height are 5,064 mm, 2,004 mm, and 1,790 mm respectively, with a wheelbase of 3,025 mm.

The Kunlun Peak Edition uses a blacked-out grille at the front and is accented with a three-peak Kunlun Mountain emblem on the C-pillar, wheel rims, and in the cabin. The Kunlun Peak Edition's body dimensions differ slightly, with length, width, and height of 5,061 mm, 2,004 mm, and 1,798 mm respectively, while the wheelbase remains 3,025 mm.

The Kunlun Peak Edition comes equipped with exclusive off-road gear: a Torsen Type B limited-slip rear differential, TMS terrain management system, factory all-terrain tires, and full steel underbody armor, along with a maximum towing capacity of 2.1 tons. A new Ford off-road visualization system has been added, which can display real-time professional off-road data on the screen, including body tilt angle, four-wheel-drive power distribution, front wheel steering angle, latitude and longitude, and tire pressure.

In terms of interior, the new vehicle is equipped with a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, a 12.3-inch full digital instrument cluster, and a 27-inch 4K central control screen. The infotainment system is the SYNC Max smart connectivity system, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip and equipped with the VA4.0 voice assistant, which is integrated with a large language model and supports wake-word-free and continuous command recognition. The Red Gold Edition and Kunlun Peak Edition additionally add front seat massage, second-row seat ventilation, and a HUD head-up display.

In terms of powertrain, the new vehicle is equipped across all trims with a 2.3T turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine producing a maximum power of 213 kW, matched to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Xiao Tang's view: The 2027 Ford Explorer is an annual facelift model that, while retaining the existing chassis and powertrain characteristics, upgrades interior comfort and infotainment practicality. The five configurations across the lineup, from the 4WD Trek Edition to the Kunlun Peak Edition, cover different usage scenarios including urban commuting, multi-passenger family travel, long-distance cruising, and unpaved road traversing. Among them, the Kunlun Peak Edition highlights a hardcore off-road character, with relatively complete towing and light off-road hardware to handle more complex road conditions. Overall, in the fuel-powered mid-to-large SUV market, this model differentiates itself through its longitudinal rear-wheel-drive platform and all-scenario adaptability.
